An ambient microphone hears snoring, but it also hears the fan, the corridor and the partner. The piezoelectric sensor only measures the vibration of the trachea it is taped to. The signal is clean, and it stays attributable to the patient being recorded.

It is a vibration sensor, not a microphone: it does not give back audible sound, it gives an amplitude. For scoring, that is exactly what you want. To play a recording back to a patient, something else is needed.

Taped to the front of the neck, below the thyroid cartilage. Key-type connector, 45 cm cable. A long 1.5 m version exists for paediatric montages and positions far from the recorder.
