The inductance band does not measure belt tension, it measures an area. A conductor laid in a zigzag runs through the band; when the ribcage expands, the area enclosed by the loop increases, and with it the inductance. The signal is proportional to cross-section, hence to the volume moved.
That proportionality changes everything. Where the piezoelectric sensor shows that effort occurred, the RIP band shows how much. It allows phase opposition between thorax and abdomen to be followed, the clearest sign of obstruction, and that is why the AASM places it above the piezo when there is a choice.
Semi-reusable means what it says: the band is cleaned and reused a limited number of times, not indefinitely. Fabric elasticity and conductor integrity degrade, and a tired band gives a weaker signal without warning.
Five sizes cover 40 to 150 cm, identified by colour: grey for small, red for medium, blue for large, black for X large, yellow for XX large. The neonatal version stands apart. The colour code saves time at fitting and avoids going back to a patient already set up.
The bands connect through their own interface cable, referenced separately in thorax and abdomen versions, in DIN 42802 or key-type plug.
