The problem is familiar to every technician: a patient who switches to mouth breathing in the middle of the night makes the nasal pressure signal disappear. On review it looks like a prolonged apnoea that never happened.

The oro-nasal cannula adds a pickup in front of the mouth, on the same tubing. As long as there is flow, through the nose or the mouth, the signal exists. This is the configuration for known mouth breathers, and for studies where a doubt already arose on a previous night.

It does not replace the thermal sensor. The AASM still asks for a separate thermal channel for apnoea, and the cannula, oro-nasal or not, remains the hypopnoea channel.

Two lengths, 210 cm for the lab and 60 cm for ambulatory work, with a 60 cm version carrying an integrated filter.
