The auricular references A1 and A2 are among the positions most often redone on a montage, because they come off. A cup stuck to an earlobe has little to hold on to, and the patient peels it off without thinking.

The clip solves the problem mechanically: it clips onto the lobe and stops moving. No paste, no collodion, no preparation. Fitting takes two seconds.

Three materials, and the choice is not cosmetic. Ag/AgCl gives the best low-frequency response. The sintered version stands repeated cleaning better while keeping the Ag/AgCl qualities. Tin is the most economical and suits routine EEG at usual frequencies.

The pairs are packed to go straight to A1 and A2, which avoids having a single clip in stock on the day two are needed.

Earlobe skin is thin. A clip left tight for too long leaves a mark, and on an overnight recording the colour of the lobe deserves checking as much as an impedance.
