The strap headset is the middle ground between a glued montage and a cap. Straps crossed over the head press on hand-placed electrodes and hold them, with no continuous fabric on the skull.

That changes two things. The skin breathes, which matters over a recording of several hours in intensive care or on a newborn. And the scalp stays accessible: you can check a position, redo an impedance, or top up paste without taking everything down.

Two or four straps depending on electrode count and the stability wanted. Four straps hold a dense montage better, two are enough for a reduced montage and leave the patient more freedom.

The solid-strap versions give a wider bearing surface, useful when the patient moves a lot or the electrodes have to hold for a long time.

From neonate to large adult. The single-strap neonatal model is sized for a newborn head and is used notably in neonatal intensive care.
