A patient whose apnoeas occur almost entirely supine does not have the same disease as a patient whose apnoeas are spread across every position. The first is often a candidate for positional therapy first, the second rarely. That distinction hangs on a single channel of the montage.

The sensor is worn on the chest, held by a belt. It reports four states, supine, right lateral, left lateral, prone, plus upright on some systems.

Two versions exist, AC and DC, and that is not a detail. An AC output passes only variations, a DC output passes an absolute value. A polygraph expecting DC and receiving AC will show a position that always returns to the same value at rest, which looks like a failed sensor. Check what the amplifier asks for before ordering.

The kits include the 1550 belt. For a first fit-out that is the right choice; for restocking, the belt is ordered separately.
