- Description: The firmest EEG paste in the catalogue. It holds cup electrodes through a long montage without drying out as fast as softer formulations.

Elefix is recognised by hand before it is recognised on screen: it is markedly firmer than most EEG pastes. You take it with a spatula rather than a syringe, and it stays where you put it instead of spreading across the scalp.

That firmness is its argument. On a long montage a soft paste migrates, thins under the electrode, and impedance climbs within a few hours. Elefix holds mechanically, which makes it a frequent choice for overnight recordings and multi-day video EEG.

It serves for EEG and for evoked potentials. Like any adhesive conductive paste it does two jobs at once: it holds the cup and it provides electrical contact. The classic trade-off is that it takes a little more effort at take-down than a pure gel.

Cleaning is with water. Allow soaking time for the cups if the montage has run long, since dried paste forms a crust in the bowl.

A word on habit: a team trained on Elefix works fast with Elefix. Changing paste mid-year changes the gesture, the quantity laid down and the impedance result, and that is paid for in repeats. If your department is used to it, the right decision is usually not to change.
